Support & frequently asked questions
Elif is an Islamic life assistant that brings prayer times, the adhan, a qibla compass, the Holy Qur'an, a dhikr counter, du'as and a source-citing AI assistant together in one ad-free app. Below are short answers to the questions we are asked most.
Questions and answers
What is the Elif app?
Elif is an Islamic life assistant that brings prayer times, the adhan notification, a qibla compass, the Holy Qur'an, a dhikr counter, du'as, a knowledge library and the source-citing Ask Elif AI assistant together in one ad-free app. It is free to download on iOS and Android, and its interface works in seven languages.
Is Elif free?
Yes. Downloading is free, and everything you need for daily worship — prayer times, the adhan, the qibla, the Holy Qur'an, the dhikr counter and du'as — is free to use. The optional Elif Premium subscription unlocks extra features; no core act of worship sits behind a paywall.
Does Elif show ads?
No. Not a single ad is shown in the app — no banners, no pop-ups, no interstitial videos and no inappropriate content. Verse, du'a and dhikr screens open without distraction.
How are Elif's prayer times calculated?
In Turkey the times are calculated to match the Presidency of Religious Affairs (Diyanet). For other countries you can choose a calculation method such as Umm al-Qura, Muslim World League or ISNA. Every prayer can also be fine-tuned minute by minute.
Is there a prayer-time countdown on the lock screen?
Yes. On iOS a Live Activity shows the time remaining until the next prayer live on the lock screen. There are also prayer-time, daily-verse and dhikr-counter widgets for both the lock screen and the home screen.
Is Elif available on Android?
Yes. Elif is published both on the App Store (iOS 16.4 and later) and on Google Play.
Which languages does Elif support?
The interface is fully localised in seven languages: Turkish, English, Arabic, French, Indonesian, Bengali and Urdu. Right-to-left layout is supported for Arabic and Urdu.
What happens to my location and personal data?
Prayer-time and qibla calculations happen on your device; your location is never sent to a server. User data is not sold or shared for advertising. Cloud backup is entirely optional. Details: privacy policy.
Can I read the Qur'an offline?
Yes. The Qur'an text and its translation are available offline once the app is installed, so you can read without a connection.
What is "Ask Elif" and can I trust its answers?
Ask Elif is an AI assistant that answers religious questions in plain language. It shows the verse, hadith or catechism source an answer rests on and follows the Ahl al-Sunnah line; you can choose the Hanafi, Shafi'i, Maliki or Hanbali school. It is not a fatwa authority — for binding rulings, consulting a qualified scholar is advised.
Can I choose a short notification sound instead of the adhan?
Yes. Under Settings → Adhan sound, alongside four muezzin recordings there are two short notification tones (Huzur and Nur), which arrive as a brief chime for anyone who cannot play the full adhan at work or in company. A completely silent notification can also be chosen.
What makes Elif different from other Islamic apps?
- No ads at all. No banners, pop-ups or interstitial content.
- Location is processed on the device, never sent to a server; data is never sold.
- Everything in one app: prayer, Qur'an, qibla, dhikr, du'a and learning are not scattered across separate apps.
- AI that cites its sources: Ask Elif shows what an answer rests on.
